Position / Title:  Food Pantry Driver / Worker

Position Type:   Part-time, up to 25 hours per week

Reports to:         Executive Director

Salary:                    $21 per hour 

The Ritenour Co-Care Food Pantry is one of the largest free-choice pantries in St. Louis County. We serve approximately 4,000 - 5,000 individuals per month. Our free-choice model means we provide clients with a grocery-store-like experience to choose the foods that best meet their families’ needs. Our mission is to “provide relief from the toxic stress of food insecurity in a respectful and dignified manner to anyone living within the Ritenour School District”. 

The pantry serves residents that live within the Ritenour School District and make 150% of the US poverty level or below. The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9am - 1pm and from 5pm - 7pm on Wednesday evenings. 

The pantry is staffed by one Executive Director, one Program Coordinator, and approximately 75 volunteers per week. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. 

Position Summary: 

The Ritenour Co-Care Food Pantry is seeking a responsible and reliable driver to pick up food donations from food banks, retailers and various donors.  This position is essential in supporting the pantry’s food rescue program and mission of providing fresh and nutritious food to the over 1,300 families we serve each month.

The Food Pantry Driver is also responsible for unloading the donations at the pantry, as well as assisting in sorting and organizing the food for distribution. 

This person should be comfortable driving large vehicles and using lift gates. They must have a clean driving record and a current Missouri driver’s license. This position requires flexibility, with work hours primarily from 10am - 3pm. This is a part-time position paid through a one-year grant.

Responsibilities: 

  • Drive pantry box trucks to pick up daily food donations.

  • Maintain and use liftgates as needed to transport food donations.

  • Assist with unloading and shelving food as needed.

  • Implement best practices around food safety and transportation.

  • Record temperatures of food at pick up and drop off sites to ensure food safety.

  • Operate lift gates and pallet jack to move pallets of food on and off trucks and throughout the pantry.

  • Be available for various pickups as needed.

  • Work alongside volunteers to assist with food distribution to clients. 

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the pantry vehicles. 

  • Follow proper health and safety procedures while handling food and equipment.

  • Attend meetings and trainings as directed. 

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all sensitive information. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Clean driving record and ability to pass background check, annual driving record review, and driving skills assessment.

  • 21 years or older.

  • Ability to safely operate box trucks, liftgates, and pallet jacks.

  • Must be able to carry and lift 50 lbs.

  • Current Missouri driver’s license. (CDL highly preferred)

  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Experience driving commercial vehicles preferred. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
