Counselor / Tutor, Veterans Upward Bound Program (7125)
The Veterans Upward Bound Counselor/Tutor plans, facilitates and delivers high interest innovative workshops, trainings and mini courses to help prepare program participants for college level work. Courses will mainly include math and language arts classes. Duties will include:
-Establish individual goals and plans to help prepare participants in the subject area that they will be enrolled in during the academic year, with a focus on learning study skills which will help them succeed in classes.
-Provide tutorial services in assigned subjects as needed.
-Motivate participants towards college and to assist with building self-esteem and a sense of achievement.
This position will work with adult participants in the Veterans Upward Bound Program. The program is based out of the SIUE East St. Louis Center and works in partnership with the Office of Veterans Services on the Edwardsville campus. The Veterans Upward Bound Program offers intensive supportive services around college preparation, career and college exploration, financial-aid planning, and the application and enrollment process to veterans (in Illinois and Missouri) who are low-income and first generation college students.
The hours for this part-time position will be Monday - Friday, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.

-Bachelor's degree in education, science, computer science, social work, math, English, or business.
-Comfortable working with computer hardware, software, networking and information delivery systems.
-Adept at using a variety of programming languages, including C++, Microsoft Visual Basic and Java, Python.
-Knowledgeable about electrical engineering technology, physical science and telecommunications systems.
-Proficient in mathematics, from advanced algebra and calculus to statistics, probability and data analysis.
-Effective communicator with good public speaking skills and strong presentation delivery abilities.
-Good leader, with a variety of teaching styles that facilitate one-on-one learning.
-Superior ability to correspond and communicate effectively with internal and external patrons.
-Experience working with diverse populations to include school age youth, high school students and adults.
-Skill in exercising appropriate judgment in decision making.
-Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
-Ability to effectively multi-task.
-Industry recognized certifications in Comptia A+, Cyber Security, Windows, Microsoft Office are a plus.
