The SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Program is looking for qualified Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistants.The Head Start/Early Head Start Program serves more than 1,400 children, ages six weeks through five years of age, throughout St. Clair County and provides a rigorous school readiness program, health and dental screenings, family engagement activities, and access to community resources. Program participants represent diverse backgrounds and qualify through a weighted needs assessment.

Responsibilities of the SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Teacher Assistant include supporting the implementation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans (including instruction during family style dining), promoting individualized classroom instruction, and assisting with classroom behavior management. Teacher Assistants support the completion of developmental screenings and assessments, record data relative to daily operations, and participate in home visits/parent -teacher conferences.

Head Start Teacher Assistant positions are nine- month (September - May), full-time positions, and serve children three through five years of age. Early Head Start Teacher Assistant positions are twelve- month, full-time positions, and serve children six weeks through three years of age. The program operates fourteen early childhood education centers (seven directly managed centers and seven collaboration sites) throughout St. Clair County. Centers are located in Belleville, Cahokia, Caseyville, East St. Louis, and Lovejoy. Assigned center location is based on programmatic needs and is determined upon hire.

1. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential;

OR

2. Currently enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, having already completed at least half (50%) of the coursework.

-Experience in teaching pre-school aged children.
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to work as a team member and work effectively with all levels of staff, parents and center volunteers.
