Over the 50 plus year history, the Company has grown from one store to a multi-state organization through investments in new sites, organic growth, and major acquisitions. Wallis’ portfolio of businesses includes a retail chain of On the Run convenience stores and Transport, Lubricant, Wholesale, Commercial Fuels, and Car Wash divisions. Today, the organization has a strong team of dedicated and professional people, and the company has continued to grow, strengthen, and serve their customers with a focus on relationships, quality products, and service to their customers.
 
Wallis Companies has an immediate need for a new Head of Human Resources. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and executing a human resources strategy that enhances the work environment and attracts and retains quality employees. You will need to flex between a wide range of strategic duties and tactical responsibilities including, but not limited to, driving the organization’s people strategy, talent acquisition, payroll, compliance, and education practices. You will spearhead critical culture initiatives, employee engagement strategies, and be responsible for all traditional human resources leadership functions.
 
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will:
 
BE A KEY MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM – Represent Human Resources as a member of the Executive Leadership team. Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of comprehensive programs, initiatives, and strategies in support of the organization’s overall strategic plan, specifically in areas of employee engagement, recruitment and retention, talent management and development, compliance, compensation, and benefits.
 
DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT HUMAN RESOURCES STRATEGIES – Develop a comprehensive human resources strategy that corresponds with the company’s goals to strengthen and sustain the company. Stay abreast of emerging trends within human resources and the industry by benchmarking, understanding market trends, gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data, research, and other sources to propose and implement best practices, programs, systems, and tools that advance the company.
 
MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE BUSINESS PARTNER RELATIONSHIPS – Be a true operational and strategic partner with Executive Leadership and Management in all areas of human resources, including leadership selection and development, strategies for mitigating risk, resolution of employee issues, legal compliance, and culture development. Advise and coach management and division leadership on established policies, procedures, and practices. Identify and manage solid working relationships with outside legal counsel, benefits, and other vendors.
 
IMPLEMENT BEST IN CLASS AND EFFICIENT PROCESSES – Establish and implement human resources processes, programs, and initiatives in support of all departments, employees, the organization’s mission, vision and values, and the achievement of the overall strategic plan. Develop and ensure there are effective human resources, payroll, recruiting, and education processes, procedures, and policies and communicate such as appropriate to management and employees to keep them informed.
 
MANAGE A HIGH PERFORMING TEAM - Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing Human Resources team. Inspire trust and credibility. Cross train team members to ensure adequate resources are available and good customer service is provided to employees. Promote the company’s culture through open communication.
 
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, business administration or related field. Master’s degree and/or senior level human resources certification a plus.
  • A minimum of seven years of leadership experience in human resources including business partnerships, employee relations, talent acquisition, talent management, compensation, benefits administration, compliance, and payroll.
  • Strong management skills with a successful track record in attracting and retaining top talent and building a high performing team. 
  • Solid knowledge of human resources practices and both federal and state employment law.
  • Demonstrated experience consulting with leaders, including identifying needs, developing action plans, identifying deliverables, and presenting results/recommendations.
  • Strong project management experience and the ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success with performance management, talent management, and human resources business partner strategies.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience with human resources information systems, applicant tracking systems with video interviewing capabilities, and learning management systems. Proficiency in Dayforce (a Ceridian product), VIDcruiter, and/or Open Sesame a plus.
  • Multi-site experience a plus.

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to communicate regularly with others to convey information and keep people informed.

 
Location and Travel
The company’s headquarters and the Human Resources support staff are located in Cuba, Missouri. There are satellite offices in Maryland Heights and Pacific, Missouri, and store locations throughout Missouri. This job may be performed remotely at one of the satellite offices three days per week, but travel will be required to the company’s headquarters in Cuba, Missouri and other locations two days per week or more, if needed. Work may be done at home one day per week.
