Job Description
Thompson Coburn LLP currently has an exempt position available in our St. Louis office for a full time Tax Accountant with three to five years of tax experience in a professional services environment.  Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor degree in accounting or finance; additional tax-specific education is a plus. CPA preferred. The person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Compiles, prepares, reports, and files all federal, state, and local tax information, including but not limited to partnership income tax returns, estimates, sales and use tax, tax credits, unclaimed property, property tax, retirement and welfare plans, registrations, and fees.
  • Reviews trust accounting records including trust and investment portfolio accounting and assists Tax and Compliance Manager to ensure compliance with all related fiduciary responsibilities. Also serves as backup to Bookkeeper/Trust Accountant.
  • Assists Tax and Compliance Manager with lobby reporting and compliance.
  • Maintains complete, organized documentation of all tax work and tax calendar.
  • Researches and documents tax positions.
  • Advises management of new tax laws, pending legislation and any corresponding potential impact on business.
  • Assists with tax planning, audits, and notices.
  • Enhances professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational sessions, reviewing professional publications, and benchmarking best practices to stay abreast of tax and compliance trends and practices.
  • Responsible for capital expenditure accounting including recordkeeping, budgeting, reconciliations, inventory assistance, and reporting as requested.

·         Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
·         Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
·         Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
·         Must have ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
·         Must have ability to collect information through communication, questioning, and interviewing techniques.
·         This is a full time position which requires working in the office a minimum of 40 hours on a regular basis. Oftentimes it may include working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements.
·         Ability to travel if necessary.
·         The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the work day, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
