Job Description
The Content Writer will work with the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications to tell the story of Maryville University to all constituency groups through digital and print publications. The Content Writer’s primary role is news and feature writer for Maryville’s bi-annual alumni magazine and news blog as well as content contributor for the website and various marketing/public relations needs. The Content Writer will also serve as editorial assistant for Maryville Magazine and Mpress. This individual will work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, service-oriented division that values excellent storytelling, accuracy, integrity and innovation. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and other constituents.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication or closely related field
• Two years of full-time professional experience as a writer in a deadline-driven environment
• Exceptional reporting skills – strong sense of story, research, interviewing, writing
• Knowledge of Associated Press Style and experience working in or with the media
• Knowledge of computers and computer software (PC and Mac)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to think strategically and multi-task on various projects
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
• Knowledge of a wide range of digital communication strategies and applications
• Knowledge or willingness to learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for copy and webpages
• Basic photography skills, including photo editing
